In Memory...
We are saddened by the loss David Smith, who has been a long-time
friend, fellow-DJ and musician. He passed away suddenly at his
home in Herkimer
on June 17, 2007. He was 51. Dave was always easy-going, loved
his family and enjoyed playing and
performing music. He co-founded local bands, Cornucopia, Good Vibrations
and the "Crystal
Clear" DJ service with his brother, Allen. He worked for New York
State for the past 32 years, the last 18 at the Marcy Correctional
Facility as Principal Clerk/Personnel. Aside being a musician and vocalist,
he
was an umpire for the NYSSO, bowled in the Mohawk Valley Merchanants
league,
enjoyed conccerts, golf, muscle cars and was a NY Jets fan.
I first met Dave with his brother, Allen, when I was beginning guitar
lessons and helping them out with their wedding band, Cornucopia, over
20 years ago. Dave was on bass guitar, Al on guitar, Don Wolfe
on
guitar and
another
Dave, Dave Wilson on drums. They were always fun to be with and I'll
have fond memories of the gigs I helped out with. Dave and Al
also played with famed musician, Carmen Caramonica, whom I have
also
had the
pleasure of studying under.
Dave will be missed. His wife, Joanne and two children, Brianne and
Cory, his brother Allen and his family are in our thoughts and prayers.
As you
can imagine, it wouldn't be the same without David. Therefore,
following a few remaining 2007 gigs, Allen will be "retiring" from
DJing. We will miss their talents that they brought to DJing
at
weddings, anniversaries,
parties and karaoke. Thanks for many great musical memories!
